Designing a stamp demonstrates an ability to be concise with visual language. Steve Reich, American minimalist composer, broke the classical music scene by combining technology of the time with dynamic composition. At the prime of his journey, this happened to be 8-track tapes. The notes dance in and out of sight chaotically, just as instruments and patterns in Reich’s music. The cutting, slicing, and combing of three cassette tapes illustrates the technology of his work. The colours of the background set the mood of the modern context in which Reich’s work sits. The combination of elements in the stamp vividly demonstrates Reich’s playful and bold, yet sophisticated character.
